Grieving a Breakup
Icon System + Digital Translation
An icon system developed for Psychology Today's nine stages of grief for those grieving a breakup.
This is an interactive extension to the current Psychology Today article that would help people actively grieving a breakup to identify their emotions and learn more about the process of grief.
ICON SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT
I started with researching current visual associations with the emotions of grief and then exploring through sketches ways to expand them. Then I applied different graphic styles and started to develop a system for all of the icons to follow.
I used Google Forms to survey 25 people to match the emotion to the icon. Users were easily able to identify Shock and Hope, but many needed adjustments. Changing Relapse and External Bargaining, made the icons more commendable.
