Collect

Branding | Strategy

Collect is a handcrafted, modular slat board that evolves and grows with you. Our team of two industrial designers (Max Wills and Jacob Schirmer) and one Graphic designer (Amanda Casey) had one semester to create a new brand in 3 months. We needed to identify an opportunity in the market, create 15 units, and sell out of all of them at a pop-up creative market in downtown Cincinnati.

I was responsible for creating the brand identity, packaging, social media graphics, and photography to visually communicate our product's unique value. I conducted trend research, interviews, and product testing to identify an opportunity area in the market and built a brand that sold out at the pop-up store.

Challenges

After our first prototype, our team took our product to five people's homes and interviewed them about our product. We were testing the overall functionality and the usability in the house. Overall, people were uninterested. It was too large to fit in many people's homes comfortably, and it was too heavy for people to want to carry it around/take it home. With the criticism, we also received excellent feedback about the custom accessories and the modularity.

This feedback took us back to the drawing board. The Industrial designers focused on refining the prototype into something lighter weight, smaller, and faster to replicate. I took this feedback and started to build a brand that focused on the customizable quality and the handcrafted wood making it takes to create this product.
